IR-Cut Filter and IR-Cut Filter Switcher
What is IR-cut filter or IR filter?
Infrared (IR) Cut filters, also known as IR filter are used with CMOS color cameras to produce true color images. An IR-Cut filter blocks the transmission of the infrared light while passing the visible light.
Unlike the human eyes, CMOS image sensors have sensitivities extending into the near-infrared. Such sensors may extend to 1000 nm. Near-infrared light, which spans from 700 nanometers (nm) up to about 1000 nm, is beyond what the human eye can see, but most camera sensors can detect it and make use of it.
This sensitivity to the NIR segment of the spectrum results in distorted colors during daylight illumination; therefore, the camera sensor requires an IR filter (or IR-Cut filter) to be placed between it and the lens, during the day.
Our serial JPEG camera is usually equipped with an IR filter, there are typically three options:
1). IR-cut filter at 650nm (true color image for daytime, doesn’t support the use of IR illuminator for low-light/no-light night vision),
2). IR-cut filter at 850nm(produces distorted color or color cast for daytime capturing, but support the use of 850nm IR illuminator for night capturing, and the 850nm IR illuminator produces a visible red glow but will illuminate stronger than a 940nm IR illuminator of equal power),
3). IR-cut filter at 940nm (produces distorted color or color cast for daytime capturing, but support the use of 940nm IR illuminator for night capturing, and 940nm IR illuminator is virtually invisible to the naked eyes).
At night or during low-light conditions, the IR filter becomes an impediment, in the formation of good quality black and white images, and therefore needs to be removed.
What is IR-cut filter switcher or IR-cut filter removable?
The IR-cut filter switcher, also known as ICR (IR-Cut filter Removable), is an apparatus that is placed between the camera sensor and the lens, and allows the IR-Cut filter to be placed or removed from the front of the sensor, depending on the illumination level. The ICR is a mechanical shutter and controlled by electromagnet with IR-cut filter and plain glass panes.

When the light sensor on IR illuminator detects light diminishes below a certain level, the camera can automatically remove IR filter away from the front of the sensor to night mode to make use of near infrared (IR) light to deliver high-quality, black and white images.
Therefore, any use-case involving outdoor installations and low-light/no-light capturing will benefit from an IR-Illuminator and a mechanical IR-cut filter switcher features on a camera.
Note: If the serial JPEG camera is equipped with white light illuminator for color night images, then such IR-cut filter switcher (ICR) is not necessary.

Low Light Capturing
Most serial JPEG cameras in the market can’t capture images when there is no infrared illumination available at night time, and the IR range of JPEG camera is very limited even the effective distance of the IR illumination is much further.
In order to solve this problem, we have developed the best serial JPEG camera with lowest LUX 0.0001 and the night vision distance can be up to 50 meters (164ft), including color night image capability at very low light environment.
Our starlight JPEG camera can capture perfect night images while there is only star light available.
Custom Wire Harness and Cable Assembly
We usually provide Spinel supplied standard wire harness with all serial JPEG camera modules and standard cable with serial JPEG cameras that come with housings/enclosures, as part of the customization we offer, wire harness and cable assembly can be customized per your request.
Wire harnesses are often used in applications where the wire will be protected by an exterior shell. Primarily these are used inside device and equipment with the camera modules. Custom options are different connectors, wire colors, diameters and length.
Cable assemblies are composed of a group of wire cables, covered by an exterior sheath. This sheathing protects the assembly and the wires inside it from heat, friction and abrasion, moisture, compression and any other hazard the assembly might face. This makes it particularly useful for outdoor applications, since it is highly resistant to elements in the environment. Custom options are different connectors (such as DB9 female connector, M12 connector), wire colors, diameters and length.
